Bariatric surgery is a type of weight loss that commonly used to treat obesity. However, this can also affect the body’s calcium and PTH metabolism, leading development secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT). Several factors contribute SHPT after bariatric surgery. Malabsorption due reduced intestinal surface area, decreased intake calcium-rich foods, altered vitamin D metabolism play significant role. The weight-bearing adipose tissue disrupt balance between bone formation resorption, increased turnover release from skeleton. management involves multidisciplinary approach. Calcium supplementation essential correct deficiency maintain health. achieving optimal levels be challenging malabsorption issues need for higher doses. In some cases, pharmacological interventions such as calcimimetics or analogs may required control levels. these medications should cautiously limited data on their safety efficacy in population. Prevention an important aspect managing patients undergoing Nutritional counseling regular monitoring calcium, D, help identify address deficiencies early on.
